Why “Core Strength” Isn’t Enough for Pain Relief

For decades, “core strength” has been marketed as the cure for back pain. But in reality, strength alone doesn’t fix movement dysfunction. What most people need is improved core coordination, pressure management, and timing - not more sit-ups or planks.

STRENGTH ≠ FUNCTION

Traditional core training (planks, crunches, sit-ups) ignores the deep stabilizing system:

• Transversus abdominis

• Diaphragm

• Multifidus

• Pelvic floor

When these muscles don’t activate together, the body creates tension in the wrong places.

WHY STRENGTH ALONE FAILS

Patients often report:

• Relief only during exercises, not throughout the day

• Recurrent flare-ups

• Rib flare and poor breathing mechanics

• Pelvic pressure during lifting

• Inability to maintain neutral spine

These symptoms reflect poor coordination, not weak muscles.

HOW PFPT BUILDS TRUE CORE FUNCTION

Treatment focuses on:

• Ribcage and pelvic alignment

• Breath-coordinated core activation

• Pressure control during lifts

• Dry needling for overactive compensators

• Pilates-based functional stability

When the deep core works correctly, the superficial core can finally do its job.
